Burnout or Brownout?
No this isn’t a racial slur - brownout is an electrical term for when energy demand is excessive.
I experienced brownout a few years back — well, my pump did. I had recently replaced it with a new one —which required more power then my system could supply.
The symptoms weren’t obvious at first, little issues here and there — which I ignored of course. Needless to say, it eventually broke.
In this weeks podcast (episode 7, season 1) Joel Milgate, Pastor of Curate Church, talks about the day he broke.
He talks about joking with his psychologist about how he wasn’t burnt out, he was just a little 'browned out.'
I haven’t met a lot of people who have truly burnt-out — it seems like a term that’s used alot nowerdays.
But I do wonder how many of us are slowly browning out.
Remember what the Covid lockdowns taught us? We all wanted to slow life down a bit.
Have you kept any of the covid lockdown promises you made to yourself?
Are you exercising?
Are you going to bed and waking up at a reasonable time?
How are your spiritual practices?
This weeks email, and podcast, are a reminder to slow life down, do less screens and take responsibility for not browning out!
